BEAUTY+INTELLIGENCE+STRENGTH

Night Sky Canines is a third generation dog breeder. My grandparents bred Karen Terriers, my parents bred American Golden Retrievers, and now I breed German Shepherds. I chose German Shepherds because of their beauty, intelligence, strength, and the deep way they connect with their pack/family. To be honest though, I didn’t entirely know what I was getting into! After a lot of education and preparation, I still had even more to learn. These are sensitive dogs who need a very balanced and stable family to guide and teach them.

BREED CHARACTERISTICS

German Shepherds must have rigorous daily exercise, both physical and mental, and they absolutely must be socialized! Socialized to people, other dogs and other animals from a very young age, no exceptions. As a responsible breeder dedicated to the wellbeing of my dogs and their potential families, I have to say that these dogs are not for everyone! Working breeds are a lot to handle and need a family willing to take that energy on.

OLD WORLD HERDING HERITAGE

German Shepherds were first recognized as a breed in 1899. Captain Max von Stephanitz is credited for developing the breed. He created German Shepherds by combining various herding breeds from Thuringia and Wurttemberg. Von Stephanitz described the German Shepherd Dog as “never idle, always on the go, well-disposed to harmless people, but no cringer, mad on children and always in love.”
